Thanks to Dr. DePalma and his wonderful staff, I have avoided back surgery for several years. I am almost 50. I consider myself very active, working out 4 to 5 times per week doing cardio and weights. I walk my dog twice a day, love to go salt water fishing with my husband, walk golf courses watching my son play, etc. Several years ago I developed severe sciatica and some numbness in my right leg and glute. After determining the cause (stenosis, herniated disc L4 and L5), my ortho surgeon referred me to Dr. DePalma in hopes to avoid surgery. After a very thorough exam, Dr. DePalma recommended steroid injections in my back. He administered the injections step-by-step, walking me through the process as he worked. I came to Dr. DePalma with chronic back pain. More of a “catch” in my lower back. I had been in physical therapy for over a year plus chiropractic care. Dr. DePalma and his fellows listened to me and designed a treatment plan. It took many months of injections to finally pinpoint the area where pain was being generated. Through all of this, the doctor’s listened to me and did what I asked, even when they were sure it was not the cause of my pain. I felt they were very thorough, the staff was friendly and they never pushed me into anything I wasn’t comfortable with. I am now pain free. For more than 20 years I have been in pain due to a herniated disk. I went to many doctors and was given the run around. After seeing Dr. DePalma on T.V. I decided to make a call for an appointment. Everything went smooth from there forward.

Dr. DePalma gave me an injection and I walked out with no pain. I returned two weeks later for another injection, still no pain and the injection wasn’t needed.

In April of 2013, I hurt my back. I was referred to Virginia iSpine Physicians, per my request, after seeing their ad on television. The pain I was experiencing was excruciating. I could not bend over to put my socks and boots on. I could not turn over while in bed or stand up from a sitting or lying position without being in agonizing pain. Going to work was not an option. I am an Ironworker, a physically demanding job. After seeing you and two weeks of rest with no improvement Dr. DePalma decided that I should have Epidural Steroid Injections. He and his staff were pleasant and professional and saw that I was informed and cared for during this procedure. I left the office around 10am and by 5pm I was feeling a change. That night I slept better than I had slept in weeks.The next morning I got out of bed with no pain. Monday morning I went to work and I could do my job.The guys I work with could not believe how well I was doing. Facing an unwanted fusion of my lower back, I searched the Internet for options and found a CBS program featuring Dr. DePalma’s approach to spinal intervention. My first contact with Dr. DePalma generated a great deal of trust in him and his science. After viewing my records, he explained my condition as well as my options in layman’s language. I had seen eight different doctors during the last couple years. None of which were able to help me with the severe headaches I had been having. I have had severe back pain for over 10 years. These past 2 years have been worse. I had to rely on a cane, scooter, walker and finally a wheel chair to get around. I was hospitalized for a week because the pain became unbearable. My pain doctor suggested Dr. DePalma. I saw him in February and had the tests that proved I was a candidate for the injections. The 2 injections were in February and March. Dr. DePalma and his staff are patient-oriented and well-trained. His procedure was so much better than the three back fusions I had. I was recommended by another ortho doctor. I was in this ortho’s office with my husband and was complaining about my back. Years after having a lumbar fusion, I developed chronic back pain that greatly affected my daily activities. My orthopedic surgeon referred me to Dr. DePalma saying, “He’s the doctor for you”. He was right. Dr. DePalma performed procedures that have been so successful that I am about to begin playing tennis again, a goal that seemed impossible a short time ago.

Dr. DePalma first treated my facet joint osteoarthritis in 2008. I had been suffering from lower back pain for many years. After diagnosing my condition, Dr. DePalma used radio frequency ablation to heat up a small area of the nerve that sensed my back pain. This procedure decreased the pain signals to my brain. The stiffness and discomfort in my lower back were much reduced. The entire diagnosis and treatment were done on an outpatient basis and the procedures were practically pain free. Relief was immediate and I was able to return to work the next day. I highly recommend Dr. DePalma for spinal pain management.

I have been very fortunate to have Dr. DePalma as my physician. Living with chronic neck and back pain used to be very difficult. However, under Dr. DePalma’s care and pain managment plan I have been able to increase my level of function at work and at home.
